Summary
Maeng da kratom, scientifically known as Mitragyna speciosa, originates from the heart of Southeast Asia. It’s native to Thailand and Indonesia.
This variety of kratom is known for its versatility and can be used for medicinal and recreational purposes. It’s a popular choice for relieving pain and stress, and may even help in increasing productivity.
Maeng da is one of the most powerful kratom varieties in existence. As a matter of fact, the effects exhibited by the strain can last for up to eight hours.
Maeng Da Kratom Effects
Compared to other kratom strains, maeng da kratom has more health benefits. And because it is cultivated for alkaloid content, this strain combines the perks offered by other kratom varieties, such as:
- Boosts Energy
This strain is known for being a potent stimulant. It can keep you awake and energized for long periods, if taken at the right amounts. If consumed excessively, however, maeng da works as a relaxant. - Relieves Pain and Enhances Mood
Maeng da suppresses pain sensation through its interaction with opioid receptors. It also facilitates the release of endorphins—the body’s own “feel good” chemicals. - Improves Mental Function
The strain is known to enhance concentration, in part by working on factors that trigger stress. It has the potential to raise productivity while keeping away mental fatigue.
Which Alkaloids are Present in Maeng Da Kratom?
Maeng da’s popularity mainly stems from its sheer potency. And of course, its potency can be attributed to the alkaloids it contains, which include:
- Mitragynine: This is the key compound responsible for the strain’s analgesic activity by working on opioid receptors, though it’s structurally different from morphine and other narcotic pain killers.
- 7-hydroxymitragynine: This is one of the most active alkaloids found in this strain (four times more potent than mitragynine). It fights fatigue and works as a stimulant, giving effects such as alertness and enhanced cognition.
- Other Notable Alkaloids: Ajmalicine, also used as an antihypertensive, has also been derived from maeng da. Mitraphylline is another alkaloid present in the strain, and is currently being studied for its anti-cancer properties.
If you haven’t taken this strain before or you’re yet to take any kind of kratom, you must start with a low dose.
Two to three grams daily, with days off, should suffice. The reason for this is to allow your system to get used to the effects of the strain in a safe and gradual manner.
On the other hand, if you’re planning to take this kratom for anxiety, limit your dose to one to three grams in a day. This is likely enough for most physical and/or mental symptoms of anxiety and depression.
For those dealing with severe anxiety, it might be necessary to gradually increase consumption—starting from one to three grams, until eventually reaching three to six grams daily.
Depression, on the other hand, ranges from sadness to full-on depressive disorder. If you’re feeling down, take one to three grams; if it’s an overwhelming episode, a higher dose likely has to be taken.
Do note though, that despite maeng da’s relative safety, overdosing is still possible. Vomiting and nausea may occur upon taking excessive amounts of the strain.
Likewise, problems like tolerance may develop and worsen from prolonged improper intake. For the sake of safety and to ensure the kratom’s effectiveness, do follow the correct dosing guidelines.
Maeng Da Kratom Reviews
Reviews on the maeng da are fairly positive. It’s often viewed as a powerful strain that can lower risks of anxiety and depression, while also being capable of fighting stress and relieving pain.
Aside from that, many consider taking this particular strain as an excellent means of overcoming fatigue. It’s seen as a potential choice for those looking for alternatives to synthetic stimulants.
Most importantly though, maeng da is among the most common recommendations for beginners because of its potency even when consumed at low doses.
Origin and Trivia
Coming from the lands of the Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand and Indonesia, maeng da is actually harvested from an evergreen tree that’s part of the coffee family.
The said tree is generally straight and its outer part is smooth and grayish in color. Its leaves are mostly dark green with a glossy texture, and grows up to 20 cm.
In Thailand, maeng da means “pimp kratom”. Interestingly, it’s been enjoyed by farmers all over Southeast Asia—that is until politically driven policies led to its use being outlawed in Malaysia and Thailand.
Also, if you’re wondering whether differently colored maeng da come from distinct sub-strains, well, they don’t. These sub-varieties have only emerged due to the manner in which the leaves are dried.
White maeng da, for example, are produced by drying the leaves exclusively indoors and without any exposure to light. Red maeng da, on the other hand, is dried under sunlight or UV.
There are two other varieties, namely greens and yellows. Greens are initially dried indoors then brought outside to complete the process, while yellows are essentially a mix of reds and greens.
Where to Buy Maeng Da Kratom
Maeng da is already available in various parts of the US. Still, the most convenient is to shop online, but do make sure that you’re getting yours from a credible name in the industry.
Also, keep in mind that even maeng da itself comes in a number of variants. For one, it can be bought in either powder or capsule form, the difference being the ease of intake.
Likewise, you’ll probably stumble upon two common kinds of maeng da as you shop, namely the white vein and the red vein. White vein maeng da kratom may work better as a stimulant, while the red vein variety could have stronger analgesic effects.
